Neck Chapter 8 Flashcards
(22 cards)
Bones of the neck
Hyoid bone, cervical vertebrae
Fascia of the Neck
Subcutaneous, Deep cervical, retropharyngeal space
What is within the subcutaneous fascia
platysma, fat
What is within the deep cervical fascia
investing layer, prevertebral layer, pretracheal layer
What is within the investing layer
splits around the SCM and Trapezius, surrounds the whole neck
What is within the prevertebral layer
muscles that move the vertebral column, wrapping bone, brachial plexus
What is within the pretracheal layer
inferior to hyoid, blends into the pericardium (carotid sheath)
What is within the Carotid sheath
internal jugular, common carotid, vagus, blended by alar fascia
What are the 4 regions of the neck
Anterior cervical region
Sternocleidomastiod region
lateral cervical region
Posterior cervical region
What are the 4 divisions of the anterior cervical region
submandibular triangle
submental triangle (unpaired)
muscular triangle
carotid triangle
What are the 2 divisions of the lateral cervical region
omoclavicular triangle
occipital triangle
What is within the posterior cervical region
descending trap, transverse fibers of trap, horizontal plane, vertebral artery, cervical plexus
What is within the SCM region
SCM muscle
external jugular vein
Erb’s point: transverse cervical nerve, great auricular nerve
What are the muscle contents within the lateral cervical region
splenius capitis
levator scap
mid/post scalene
omohyoid
What are the arteries within the lateral cervical region
arteries: from the thyrocervical trunk –> transverse cervical, suprascapular
occipital
Subclavian (3rd part)
What are the veins within the lateral cervical region
external jugular
subclavian
brachiocephalic
What are the nerves within the lateral cervical region
spinal accessory, roots of brachial plexus, suprascapular, cervical plexus
Cervical plexus nerves
cutaneous: lesser occipital, great auricular, transverse cervical, supra clavicular
motor: phrenic
