difficult for people to distinguish between what is reality and what is fiction - stated that people are so ‘engulfed’ by communication and this has led to a state of ‘hyper-reality’
- Our physical reality has become blended with our virtual realities in which we are bombarded with ‘simulacra’ (representations of representations)
- claims that some people are more involved with the ‘hyperreal’ world and it is not possible to deduce what is ‘real’ anymore
