Nervous System Flashcards
(27 cards)
What is Co-ordination
The ability to pick up changes in your environment and carry out the correct response
What is stimulus
The information that is picked up and cause a response
What is the stimulus for eye
Light
What are receptors
Body picks up the informations from receptors
Name the two types of receptors
Inter receptors and exo receptors
What is interreceptors
Receive internal stimuli ( hypothalamus) and cause a response
What are exoreceptors
Receive external stimuli ( sense organs ) and cause a response
Name the two types of nervous system
CNS and PNS
What is the central nervous system made up of
Brain and the spinal cord
What is the peripheral nervous system made up of
Cranial nerves and spinal nerves
What is a single nerve cell called
Neuron
Name the 3 types of neuron
Sensory neuron , interneuron , motor neuron
What is sensory neuron
Send impulse from the sense organ to CNS
What is interneuron
Sends impulse from the sensory neuron to motor neuron
What is motor neuron
Sends impels from the CNS to the effector ( cause the response )
What does the cell body contains
Contains nucleus ( eukaryotic)
What is the main thing that is different of sensory neuron
Cell body along the axon
What are dendrite
Picks up impulse from previous neuron / sense organ towards the cell body
What is axon
Conducts impulse along the neuron (+/-) away from the cell body
What is myelin sheath made of
Schwann cells
What is the function of myelin sheath
Insulates the axon and increases speed
What are nodes of ranvier
Gaps in myelin sheath
What is the function of nodes of ranvier
Increases speed
What are synaptic terminal / knobs
Send impulse to next neuron or effector ( cause response )
