NETWORK FUNDAMENTALS Flashcards
DATA CENTER TOPOLOGY (8 cards)
What is a data center?
It’s any facility that businesses and other organizations use to organize , process , store and disseminate large amounts of data
What are the data center topology?
1 Three tiered hierarchy
2 Collapsed Core
3 Spine and Leaf
4 Traffic flows
What are the components of the three-tiered layers?
1 Core
2 Distribution-aggregation layer
3 Access / Edge layer
What is a collapsed core topology?
It is a network architecture where the core and the distribution layers are being merged into a single layer
Define the spine and leaf architecture
It is an alternative type of network architecture that focuses on the communication within the data center itself
1 The spine connects switches in a full mesh topology
2 The leaf consists of all the access switches
Define traffic flow
There 2 main types of traffic flow
1 North -South
2 East-West
Define North-South traffic in a data center
It refers to the traffic that enters or leave the data center from a system residing outside the data center
Northbound traffic is the traffic exiting the data center
Southbound traffic refers to the traffic entering the data center
Define East-West Traffic
It refers to data flow within the data center
