Network security Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is Network Security and its purpose?
Network security is like having rules and locks on your computer or Wi-Fi to keep it safe.
It helps stop strangers from getting in and protects your information, like your photos, passwords, or school work.
Just like you lock your house to keep it safe, network security locks your network so only the right people can use it.
List the network security guidelines?
-Restricting sensitive document access
-Prevent premature test access
-Network resources access
-Password selection
-Password confidentiality
How do you choose and mange a password?
Use at least 8–12 characters
Longer passwords are harder to crack.
Include a mix of characters
Use uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols (e.g. !, @, #, $).
Avoid personal information
Don’t use names, birthdays, or simple words like “password” or “1234”.
Use passphrases
Combine random words or a sentence you can remember (e.g. “Pizza4Dogs@Night!”).
HOW TO MANAGE
Use a password manager
Tools like Bitwarden or LastPass store your passwords safely.
Don’t reuse passwords
Each account should have its own unique password.
Change passwords regularly
Especially if you think someone may know it or there’s a security breach.
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
Adds extra security by asking for a code from your phone or email when logging in.
Don’t write passwords down openly
Avoid leaving sticky notes on your computer. If needed, store them in a secure place.

What does VPN stand for ?
Virtual Private Network
What is the function of a VPN?
Describes the opportunity to establish a protected network connection when using public networks. VPNs encrypt your internet traffic and disguise your online identity.
How does a VPN work?
-A VPN hides your IP address by letting the network redirect it through a specially configured remote server run by a VPN host. This means that if you surf online with a VPN, the VPN server becomes the source of data.
-Your ISP and other third parties cannot see which websites you visit or what data you send and receive online.
-A VPN works like a filter that turns all your data into “gibberish”.
