Neurologic System Flashcards
(26 cards)
What is the four parts of the brain
Cerebrum, diencephalon, brainstem and cerebellum
A part of the brain that is responsible for thinking, reasoning, problem solving, learning and memory
Cerebrum
It is a part of a brain that is known as the processing center for sensory and motor information.
Diencephalon
A part of a brain that is responsible for breathing, heart rate, sleep/wake cycle, connects brain to the spinal cord
Brainstem
A part of a brain that coordinates movement, balance, posture and muscle tone
Cerebellum
It carry information to and from the CNS
Peripheral nervous system
How many pairs of cranial nerves and spinal nerves are there in the peripheral nervous system
12 pairs of cranial nerves
31 pairs of spinal nerves
What cranial nerves is responsible for sense of smell
Olfactory
What cranial nerves is responsible for visual information or the sense of sight
Optic
What cranial nerves are responsible for eye movement and pupil function
Oculomotor
What cranial nerves is responsible for the movement of in and out of the eye
Trochlear
The cranial nerve that is responsible for facial sensation and mastification (chewing)
Trigeminal
The cranial nerves that is responsible for the abduction of the eye or to look at the left and right
Abducens
The cranial nerve that is responsible for facial expressions
Facial
The cranial nerves that is responsible for hearing and balance
Vestibulocochlear
The cranial nerves that is responsible for taste and gag reflex or swallowing
Glossopharyngeal
The cranial nerves that is responsible for digestion, heart rate, breathing and immune response
Vagus
The cranial nerves that is responsible for the neck movement and the shoulder shrug
Accessory
The cranial nerve that is responsible for speech and swallowing
Hypoglossal
It is responsible for the voluntary skeletal muscles
Somatic fibers
It is responsible for the involuntary muscle
Autonomic fiber
It is a wide-based, staggering, unsteady gait
Cerebellar ataxia
Shuffling gait, very stiff manner, flexed hips and knees
Parkinsonian gait
Flex arm hold close to body while client drugs toe or leg or circles it stiffly, usually seen in person that is stroke
Spastic hemiparesis
