Q

What does the long thoracic nerve do and where are its roots

A

innervates serratus anterior
root=C5, C6, C7. C5+6 pierce middle scalene, C7 passes in front of muscle. Descends posterior to axillary artery and vein alongside of thorax

Q

what does the axillary nerve do and where are its roots

A

innervates teres minor, deltoid, glenohumeral joint, skin over inferior deltoid
exits axilla through quadrangular space with posterior circumflex humeral artery
gives rise to superior lateral brachial cutaneous nerve, then winds around surgical neck of humerus

Q

what does the musculocutaneous nerve do and where are its roots

A

Innervates muscles of the anterior arm (flexor compartment: biceps brachii, coracobrachialis, brachialis), with a branch to the humerus (nutrient foramen), and continues as lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm
