Q

What is neo-liberalism?

A

An economic philosophy behind new right that’s had major influence in education policy. Neo liberals believe state should not service educational and health. It’s based on idea state must not dictate to individuals & shouldn’t try to regulate a free market economy and encourage competition, deregulate markets & private state run business.
Bro liberals have influenced all governments since 1979 particularly conservatives, they believe value of education is how well it enable country to compete in global market. They think this can only be achieved if schools act like businesses, empowering parents and pupil as consumers using comp between school to drive up standards ( ofsted reports and league tables).
