What are the indications for naloxone (Narcan) use?
patients with respiratory depression or arrest secondary to known or suspected opiate overdose (as evidenced by pinpoint pupils, depressed mental status, etc.)
What are the contraindications for naloxone (Narcan) use?
- hypersensitivity or allergy to naloxone
- medication is discolored, cloudy, precipitated, or expired
What is the dosage of naloxone by both intranasal and intramuscular routes?
half of medication 1mg/mL per nare;
0.4mg to lateral thigh
What are the indications for aspirin?
pt currently experiencing chest discomfort
What are the contraindications of aspirin?
- known hypersensitivity or allergy to aspirin
- 325mg of aspirin taken in past 24 hours
- bleeding or active bleeding disorder
- pregnancy
- suspicion of thoracic or AAA
- aspirin is expired
Explain how you would administer aspirin.

What are the indications for nitroglycerin (NTG)?
pt currently experiencing chest discomfort
What are the contraindications for nitroglycerin (NTG)?
- 3 doses of NTG within a 15-minute period
- systolic BP
Explain how you would administer nitroglycerin (NTG).
- must be prescribed for and supplied by pt
- assist with one tablet or spray under the tongue
- reassess chest discomfort (0-10) and vitals after 1-2 minutes
- repeat one dose of NTG every 5 minutes with a max dose of 3
