What is a fugue state?

A pathological state of altered conciousness where an individual may act and wander as normal but with no recollection of the event. Memory returns to normal following event.

Causes of functional attacks?

Traumatic events
Physical/sexual abuse
Other stress
Anxiety or depression
Idiopathic

Diagnosis of functional attacks

History
Lingual analysis
Outpatient EEG and video with provocation
Long term EEG

What is lingual analysis?

A patient can be talked into having an attack using psychological techniques (think Derren Brown)

What causes a seizure to occur?

Abnormal electrical discharge in part of the brain

Examples of somatosensory auras?

Numbness
Tingling
Electric shocks
Thermal sensations
Pain

Examples of visual auras?

Simple shapes
Static
Flashing
Moving lights
Colours
