Normal Distribution Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is meant by distribution
The way in which something is shared out among a group
What is frequency distribution
This is the amount of times The value appears in a sample
What is a normal distribution
This is when the distribution is perfectly symmetrical around the measures of central tendency
What is a positive skew where did the measures of central tendency sit
A positive skew is where the frequency lies towards the left of the histogram mode is more towards the left then mean and median
What is the negatives skew where did the measures of central tendency lie
A negative Skew is where the bulk of the frequency it’s on the right hand side the mode is more to the right of mean and median
What is Kurtosis
This is the steepness of the curve
What is a lepokurtic curve
This is a very steep curve with short tails
What is a platykurtic curve?
This is shallow with long thin tails
What is a Mesokurtic curve?
This is a simple bell curve
What is a bimodal distribution
This is a mixture of two distributions with two separate peaks (means)
What kind of distribution is needed to meet parametric assumptions
It needs to be symmetrical
Think bell curve
In a normal distribution what percentage of the population falls within 1, 2 and 3 standard deviations?
1 SD = 68.26%
2 SD = 95.44%
3 SD = 99.75%
How do you work out the Z score?
This is the number of standard deviations of value is from the mean
