Nucleic Acid Section Flashcards
(6 cards)
What are the similarities between DNA and RNA?
- They store genetic information
- Both are Large biological polymers
- Uses hydrogen bonds to join complementary base pairs
What are the differences between RNA and DNA?
- B form double helix - DNA
- A form helix - RNA
- DNA is responsible for storing and transferring genetic information, while RNA directly codes for amino acids and acts as a messenger between DNA and ribosomes to make proteins
What do Nucleic acids consist of?
- Long polymers of repeating subunits called nucleotides
What are nucleotides?
- Organic molecules composed of a nitrogenous base, a pentose sugar and a phosphate.
What is ATP?
- captures chemical energy obtained from the breakdown of food molecules and releases it to fuel other cellular processes
What is the monomer for Nucleic Acid?
- Nucleotide
