inflammation and infection of the organs of the pelvis, caused by infection spreading up through the cervix

  • neisseria gonorrhoeae (tends to be more severe also)
  • chlamydia trachomatis
  • mycoplasma genitalium

  • multiple sexual partners
  • younger age
  • existing sexually transmitted infections

  • pelvic/lower abdo pain
  • abnormal vaginal discharge
    -abnormal bleeding (intermenstrual/postcoital)
  • dyspareunia
  • fever

A
  • NAAT swabs for gonorrhoea and chlamydia
  • NAAT for mycoplasma genitalium if available
  • HIV test
  • syphilis test
