What are the 2 types of cow’s milk protein allergy?
IgE mediated (rapid reaction, within 2hrs) and non-IgE mediated (over days)
What makes CMPA more likely? (2)
- baby is breast fed
-personal/family hx of atopy
When does CMPA usually present?
before 1y/o, can also become apparent during weaning
What is the management for CMPA?
breast fed → mum avoids dairy
bottle fed → switch to special hydrolysed formula
try to reintroduce with ladder every ~6mths
What virus is measles caused by?
Morbillivirus
What are some key features of measles?
- prodrome of 2-4 days with fever and coryzal sx
- Koplik spots on buccal mucosa
- macpap rash typically starting behind ears and spreading down rest of the body
self-limiting
How is measles spread?
aerosol transmission - infective from prodrome to 4 days after rash starts
incubation = 10-14 days
What are some potential complications of measles?
- otitis media (most common)
- pneumonia (most common cause of death)
- encephalitis
- febrile convulsions
When are children immunised against measles?
1 year and 3yrs 4mths
