Q

What Strong Wind Adjustments?
what about mountain wave?

8.11.3

A

Wind at relevant MSA >50kts?

  • Increase MOA by 2000’

When flying over mountainous terrain in Mountain Wave conditions

  • Vertical Clearance ≥ height of highest ridge above surrounding terrain

Q

IMC Below MSA - Single Radio Aid etc.

8.13.3.b

Q

VMC below MSA is permitted …
DAY/NIGHT

8.13.3.c

A

DAY - (except RNAV Visual)
If the flight can be continued to ensure clearance from all obstacles

NIGHT -
Only if LINE OF FLIGHT IS LINE OF FLIGHT
Identifiable lit area (generally RWY) and distance is checked against height - if not possible maintain MSA until over the field.

RNAV Visual - VMC must be maintained and published vertical/lateral profile followed.

If UNABLE RNP - may continue if trajectory is towards identifiable lit area and pos checked. Otherwise climb to MSA.

Q

What are the 4 elements of the Safe Landing Policy

(OMA 8.13.7) how do you make sure your buddy achieves them?

A

Comprises of 4 elements

  1. OPT
  2. Stable Approach Criteria
  3. Stable Touchdown Criteria
  4. Safe Rollout Criteria

Set gates for each criteria

Q

Stable Approach Criteria - SAC
To comply you must…

8.13.7.b

A

Must be stable by minimum of 1000’ or G/A

Stable when..

C - Config (gear and land flap)
A - Approach spd *
P - Profile, both vertical and lateral

  • only in cases of rapid wind changes, turb or adherence to ATC speed requirements

SPEED call maybe made at 1000’ - max 20kts above approach spd.

before 500’ - call is STABLE or G/A

Q

Safe Touchdown Criteria - STC
To comply you must…

8.13.7.c

A

If not achieved - fly rejected landing

Achieved when..

-Main gear Touchdown within TDZ
-Main gear Trajectory within the RWY edge assured
-Normal RWY contact within a/c geometric limits
