strategy arms limitation talks
Salt 1: series of negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union in the early 1970s aimed at limiting and controlling their nuclear weapons and missile systems to reduce the risk of nuclear war
salt 2: follow-up treaty negotiated between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1970s that aimed to further limit and control strategic nuclear weapons, but it was never formally ratified because of rising tensions, especially after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan

U.S. program announced by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 aiming to develop a missile defense system that could protect the country from nuclear attacks by intercepting incoming missiles from space. It was nicknamed “Star Wars.”
