what are some of the essentials things to remember for orthopaedic and neuro trauma

A
  • Patients with a suspected fracture should be transported to hospital as soon as
    practicable.
  • Pain should be treated early to reduce the effects of a stress response and ease
    the patient of pain.
  • Only those who are trained in application of skeletal or skin traction should apply
    them.
  • Musculoskeletal injuries are common in trauma patients, although it rarely poses
    an immediate life-threatening condition.
  • Skeletal trauma CAN be life-threatening however when it produces significant
    blood loss (haemorrhage), either externally or from internal bleeding into the
    extremity or retro peritoneum (in the case of the pelvis)
