Orthotics Flashcards
(14 cards)
Static Orthosis
no moving parts
immobilizes a joint or part of a joint
Dynamic Orthosis
includes a resilient component that the individual moves
designed to increase PROM
Serial Static Orthosis
static orthosis or the use of casting material that is remolded to address change in joint motion
Static progressive orthosis
includes static adjustment part that allows person or OT to make changes in tension to increase motion
Resting hand orthosis
Wrist: 0-20 degrees extension
MCPS: 20-30 degrees flexion
IPs: slight flexion
PARROT
Safe position orthosis
used to prevent deformity position in dorsal hand burns and maintain length of collateral ligaments
Wrist: 15-30 degrees extension
MCPs 50-70 degrees flexion
IPs in full extension
ALLIGATOR
Brachial Plexus orthosis
Flair arm orthosis
used for positioning
Radial nerve injury orthosis
assist with partial wrist motion and finger extension
used for function
assist with digit extension to increase release of objects
Median nerve injury orthosis
opponens orthosis and web spacer
used to hold the thumb in opposition during functional tasks
Ulnar nerve injury orthosis
anticlaw orthosis or lumbrical bar
Position MCPS in flexion
Combined median and ulnar orthosis
figure of eight or limbrical bar to position MCPs in flexion for digits 2-5
SCI C6-C7 orthosis
wrist-driven or flexor hinge
transfers power from extended wrist to radial fingers allowing for stringer pinch
used to facilitate grasp and release using tenodesis
Carpal Tunnel Orthosis
wrist orthosis positioned in neutral
decrease pressure on carpal canal
Cubital tunnel orthosis
elbow orthosis positioned at 30 degrees flexion
prevent elbow flexion at night
