Other Musculoskeltal Disorders Flashcards
(12 cards)
Cause of OI
dysfunction of gene responsible for producing collagen for development of bone structure and strength
Signs and Symptoms of OI
Bone malformation: bowing, short stature, triangular face, curved spine
Brittle Bones
lose joints
hearing loss
Type I OI
mild symptoms
Types IV, V, VI OI
moderate symptoms
Types II, III, VII, and VIII OI
Severe symptoms
Type II is most severe
Intervention for OI
education on positioning, handling, activity, and environmental adaptations
assistive device fabrication
weight-bearing activities to increase bone growth and muscle strength
Diagnosis of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita
congenital joint contractures
two or more joints with congenital contractions
Signs and Symptoms of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita
Weakness
limited or no ROM in affected joints
typically have limited use of hands or digits
position of rest of UE tends to be internally rotated, elbows extended, and wrists flexed
OT Intervention for Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita
gentle ROM and weight bearing exercises
environmental modifications and adaptations
training in use of mobility devices
OT Eval for Hip Replacement
Review precautions and WB status
Occupational profile
ADL assessment
Assess ROM and strength of UE
Posterolateral Hip Precautions
no flexion beyond 90
no adductions or crossing legs
no internal rotation
No pivot at the hip
sit on raised chair and toliet seats
transfer from sitting to standing with the hip in slight abduction and extended
Anterolateral Hip Precautions
no external rotation
no hip extension
depends on surgeon
