What is the ultimate goal of occupational therapy (OT)?
To achieve optimal occupational performance across the 8 categories of occupation.
What are the acts involved in the OT process?
1) Evaluation - interviews, observation, screening for occupational deficits.
2) Intervention - use of activities as an end and as means.
3) Outcomes - use outcome measures to establish baseline performance before intervention, track changes, assess final performance.
What are some settings where occupational therapists (OTs) work?
Schools, hospitals, private practices, community clinics, mining hospitals, non-governmental organisations, disabled people’s organisations, retirement and frail care facilities, rehabilitation facilities, home-based settings.
What populations are served by occupational therapists (OTs)?
People of all ages, people facing (or at risk of) occupation-related restrictions that impact quality of life.
What are examples of populations served by OTs?
Individuals with physical disabilities or dysfunctions, mental illness, neurological disease, trauma, developmental delays, learning disabilities.
What was introduced by the Moral Treatment Movement (MTM)?
Moral treatment instead of physical treatment for the mentally ill.
