Othello Act Three Flashcards
Iago’s scheming?
Iago continues to manipulate Othello, planting more doubts about Desdemona’s fidelity.
He insinuates that Desdemona’s closeness to Cassio is suspicious and subtly suggests that she might be having an affair with him.
Othello’s reaction?
Othello becomes consumed with jealousy and increasingly distrustful of Desdemona. He treats her progressively coldly and loses much respect from her in this act. He begins to distance himself with her.
Desdemona’s thoughts?
Desdemona is unaware of the growing tension and she continues to plead Cassio’s case to Othello. This simply furthers Othello’s doubts and distrust upon her insistence.
Meanwhile - Iago?
Iago continues to manipulate others, getting Emilia (his wife and Desdemona’s maid) to steal Desdemona’s handkerchief, which he later uses as evidence of her infidelity. He plants the handkerchief in Cassio’s chambers for him to find with confusion.
Othello?
Othello becomes increasingly erratic and begins to show signs of deep jealousy and suspicion.
