Consensual Encounter
A completely voluntary police interaction with members of the public, requiring no legal justification for the interaction, where a reasonable person would feel free to disregard the police and go about their business
Elements of a crime
In every crime or public offense there must exist a union or joint operation of act and intention, or criminal negligence
Investigative Detention
Reasonable suspicion stop, also known as a “Terry Stop”. Is a seizure of a person for no more than 60 minutes, with the limited scope and purpose of conducting an investigation and for which a police officer must have reasonable suspicion that a person is committing, has committed, or is about to commit a crime (NRS 171.123).
Larceny from a person
The unlawful taking from the person of another, without his consent, any money, property, or thing of value, under circumstances not amounting to robbery
Objectively Reasonable
An objective standard of force viewed from the perspective of a reasonable officer, without the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, and based on the totality of the circumstances presented at the moment the force is used
Sexual Assault
A person who subjects another person to sexual penetration, or who forces another person to make a secual penetration on himself or another, against the victim’s will is guilty of sexual assualt
The Warrant Rule
For all searches and non-person seizures, when a reasonable and legitimate expectation of privacy exists, the police are required to obtain a warrant - unless the police can show a recognized exception existed or consent was provided

Weapons meeting department specifications for which officers recieve proficiency and safety training
Recovery Position
The placement of a subject’s body in a manner that does not restrict breathing or obstruct the airway, i.e, on their side or upright
