why is fluoride used in dentistry? 3
Inhibits bacterial metabolism/enzyme action and demineralisation and more resistant to erosion
in what scenarios can a fissure sealant be used
non-cavitated or enamel only lesion within D1 radiographically.
advantages of GI fissure sealants 3
Useful where moisture control is a problem
Releases fluoride
Easy to apply - painless
disadvantages of GI 2
Lower wear resistance and retention rates
Poor aesthetics
advantages of resin fissure sealants 3
Prevents caries - easier to clean
Painless
Aesthetic
disadvantages of resin fissure sealants
Better wear resistance but still wears over time
Need adequate moisture control
what is childhood dental neglect?
Failure to meet child’s basic oral health needs - failure to provide oral care, delay seeking treatment or not completing treatment
