Oxygenation 2/3 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Factors that influence respiratory function (7)…
- Age
- Environment
- Lifestyle
- Health status
- Medications
- Stress
Common manifestations of impaired respiratory function
- Hypoxia
- Altered breathing pattern
- Obstructed or partially obstructed ariway (disease process, COPD … or allergic reaction)
Manifestations seen with hypoxia?
Rapid, shallow respirations and dyspnea
- confusion, slurred words
Complication associated with insufficient oxygen anywhere in the body?
Cyanosis
Indication for partially obstructed airway?
Low-pitch snoring during inhalation
Indication of completely obstructed airway?
Extreme inspiratory effort with no chest movement
Why are patients administered oxygen?
- Difficulty ventilating all areas of the lungs
- Impaired gas exchange
- Heart failure
Open flames and oxygen?
10 feet apart
Why do patients with COPD need to assessed thouroughly while O2 administration?
They have adapted to a high CO2 level and their stimulus to breathe is not based on their CO2 level, but rather on their O2 level
