Q

Describe how to do core practical: Rate experiment involving gases.

A

gas syringe with a stand, boss and clamp dilute hcl(50cm3) marble chips caCO3.

add the hcl and chips to a conical flask and co2 gas should be emitted and the amount produced can be shown in the gas syringe moving, this should be put on to the flask tightly to ensure no loss of CO2

Notes:take measurements every 10 secs
repeat experiment
crunch up the marble balls more as the only change in factor
more crushed up more SA so more co2 will be produced in smaller amounts of time.
YOU ARE MEASURING HOW SA AFFECTS RATE….

Q

explain how reactions occur when particles collide

A

Collision theory, anything that increases the probability that the reactant particles will collide, also increases the rate of the reaction.
A REACTION CAN ONLY OCCUR IF THE PARTICLES ARE ABLE TO COLLIDE.
