Why is it a problem to solely rely on employees’ ethics?
Not everyone has the same ethical standards and not everyone has been trained in ethical decision making.
Give three ways of how an organization should approach ethics in the workplace
Define values and explain how they are applied at every level, Reward behavior that is consistent with values, Provide access to an expert for resolving tough cases
List three strategies for motivating people who want to change but have low self-efficacy.
Focus on removing barriers, such as affordability, transportation and childcare… Use positive testimonials for inspiration… Use negative testimonials as a fear appeal
List three strategies for motivating people who aren’t interested in your message.
Target your appeals to someone who does care and can approach the person… Use a strong fear appeal that includes real stories and vivid details… Use social proof to your advantage by showing people what others think is the right
thing to do.
What are two practical applications of the commitment and consistency principle?
Ask people to commit to a behavior because they will be more likely to follow
through… If asking someone to commit to a behavior right away is too difficult, ask them to set a date for committing to the behavior.
Let’s say that you are on the PR team for a disaster relief organization. Based on PR research, what should you ask the media to do when covering a story about a recent natural disaster to increase your donations?
Feature a member of your organization in the newscast… If a representative of your organization cannot appear, at least mention your
organization by name in the newscast
