So yet that (ita tamen ut—weird, but it is what it is) they first went up and wept before the Lord (prius ascenderent et flerent coram Domino) all the way to night (usque ad noctem). And they consulted him and they said (consulerentque eum et dicerent), ought I to proceed further (debeo ultra procedere—sounds odd. Sense is “should I go further” but I need to make it work with the infinitive) to fight against the sons of Benjamin (ad dimicandum contra filios Beniamin), my brothers, or not (fratres meos an non)? At which, he responded to them (quibus ille respondit): Rise to them (ascendite ad eum) and go into battle (et inite certamen).

quam ob rem omnes filii Israhel venerunt in domum Dei et sedentes flebant coram Domino ieiunaveruntque illo die usque ad vesperam et obtulerunt ei holocausta et pacificas victimas

Which, on account of that fact (quam ob rem) all the sons of Israel came into the house of God (omnes filii Israhel venerunt in domum Dei) and, sitting, they wept before the Lord (et sedentes flebant coram Domino). And they fasted that day all the way to evening/even-tide (ieiunaveruntque illo die usque ad vesperam), and they offered to him (et obtulerunt ei) holocausts and animals for peace offerings (holocausta et pacificas victimas).

And Phinees, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron was in command of the house (et Finees filius Eleazari filii Aaron praepositus domus). They therefore consulted the Lord and they said (consuluerunt igitur Dominum atque dixerunt): Ought we to go more (exire ultra debemus) to fight against the sons of Benjamin (ad pugnam contra filios Beniamin), our brothers, or to be at peace (fratres nostros an quiescere)? At which the Lord said (quibus ait Dominus), rise, tomorrow I will indeed deliver them into your hands (ascendite cras enim tradam eos in manus vestras).

11

posueruntque filii Israhel insidias per circuitum urbis Gabaa

And the sons of Israel put/placed ambushes (posueruntque filii Israhel insidias) through the border/circle of the city of Gabaa (per circuitum urbis Gabaa).

12

et tertia vice sicut semel et bis contra Beniamin exercitum produxerunt

And for a third exchange (et tertia vice), just as the first and second occasions (sicut semel et bis), they led out their army against Benjamin (contra Beniamin exercitum produxerunt)

13

sed et filii Beniamin audacter eruperunt de civitate et fugientes adversarios longius persecuti sunt ita ut vulnerarent ex eis sicut primo et secundo die et caederent

But also/even the sons of Benjamin boldly burst out from the city (sed et filii Beniamin audacter eruperunt de civitate) and they pursued/followed their fleeing adversaries (et fugientes adversarios…persecuti sunt) for a long while (longius) so that they might wound and slaughter out of [some of?] them (ita ut vulnerarent ex eis…et caederent) just as [they had done] on the first and second day (sicut primo et secundo die).

15

putaverunt enim solito eos more cedere qui fugam arte simulantes iniere consilium ut abstraherent eos de civitate et quasi fugientes ad supradictas semitas perducerent

They thought indeed to cut [them off] (putaverunt enim…cedere) as they were in the habit of affecting [sense—“as they had done before”] (solito eos more). Who deciding to begin (qui…iniere consilium) artfully imitating flight (fugam arte simulantes) that they might drag them away from the city (ut abstraherent eos de civitate), and as if fleeing (et quasi fugientes), they would lead them (perducerent) to the paths said before/spoken of before (ad supradictas semitas).

16

omnes itaque filii Israhel surgentes de sedibus suis tetenderunt aciem in loco qui vocatur Baalthamar insidiae quoque quae circa urbem erant paulatim se aperire coeperunt

And so all the sons of Israel, rising from their seats/homes (omnes itaque filii Israhel surgentes de sedibus suis) aimed/set the battle line (tetenderunt aciem) in the place which was called Baalthamar (in loco qui vocatur Baalthamar). The ambushes also which were around the city (insidiae quoque quae circa urbem erant), themselves began to open/trigger little by little (paulatim se aperire coeperunt).
