Which bones are the palatines
These are the little L shaped bones at the rear of the hard palate
Where is the horizontal plate
This forms the posterior third - bottom of the L
Where is the greater palatine foramen
This is found at the rear corner of the hard palate
Where is the pterygopalatine canal
This is found posterosuperiorly
Where is the posterior nasal spine
This is found on the superior surface of the horizontal plate.
Where is the lesser palatine foramina
This is located on the posterolateral corner of the hard palate posterior to the greater palatine foramina
Where is the perpendicular (vertical) plate
This is found half way up the straight bit of the L
Where is the pyramidal process
This is the triangular process which is posterior
Where is the conchal crest
This is on the medial surface about half way up
Where is the ethmoidial crest
This is on the medial side above the conchal crest
Where is the sphenoidal process
This is the notch under the vertical plate seen better in the posterior view
Where is the sphenopalatine notch
This is the notch above the vertical plate seen better in the posterior view
How would you side a palatine
These are most commonly attached to the maxillae and sphenoid. When isolated they have a free posterior edge on the horizontal and the nasal surface is smooth
