What are the steps of taking pap smear?

A
  1. Explain the procedure to patient
  2. Consent
  3. Check trolley
  4. Ask patient to empty the bladder
  5. Patient lies supine
  6. Legs abducted and flexed
  7. Sterilize the area and drape the patient
  8. Lubricate the cusco/sims speculum
  9. Take the sample from transitional zone by using Ayre’s spatula and rotate it clockwise
  10. Remove the gloves
  11. If bleeding or pain → give antibiotics and painkillers
