Temperature changes rpa method
(neutralisation reaction between hcl acid and the alkali sodium hydroxide)
IV= volume of sodium hydroxide solution
DV=maximum temp reached
CV=volume of hcl and conc of hcl and sodium hydroxide solution
1.use measuring cylinder to measure 50cm3 of hcl acid
2.transfer into polystyrene cup
3.stand cup inside a beaker to stop from falling over
4.use thermometer to measure temperature of the acid
record in tabke
5.use measuring cylinder to measure 5cm3 of sodium hydroxide solution and add to cup
6.add plastic lid and place thermometer through hole
7.stir
8.record highest temp reached
9.repeat entire experiment 5 times increasing volume of sodium hydroxide by 5cm3 each time
10.repeat entire experiment 3 more times and calculate mean temperature reached by each volume
10.ensure same initial starting temp
