What should you do first with the extract in the source question?
Read the question. Look for the points of comparison it wants you to make. Then go through the extracts with two different highlighters. Highlight the opposing points on either side.
What is the key constraint on what arguments you can make in a source question?
All your arguments should originate in the source. You should use quotes wherever possible.
Two step process to planning a successful 25 marker extract question?
- Plan out your paragraphs based around key points for comparison in the extracts
- Plan your overall answer, which should be delineated in the conclusion, based on the key arguments presented
When should your argument first be clear?
In your introduction

At least 2 points on the either side of the question. And then think of your overall answer.

- For/Against, For/Against
- 3-4 EMBEDDED paragraphs - comparison within the paragraphs
3 key things to include in an introduction
- Show the relevance and state why a given political debate you are addressing is important to a study of politics
- Set out the different points of view
- State your argument
