What is skill?
A learned action or behaviour with the intention of bringing about predetermined results with maximum certainty and minimum outlay of time and energy.
What is the difference between a basic and complex skill?
Basic skills require little concentration (e.g. walking); complex skills require more concentration and coordination (e.g. a tennis serve).
What is an open skill vs a closed skill?
Open skills are affected by the environment (e.g. passing in football); closed skills are performed in a predictable environment (e.g. gymnastics routine).
What are the types of practice?
Massed, distributed, fixed, variable.
What are the types of feedback?
Intrinsic, extrinsic, positive, negative, knowledge of results, knowledge of performance.
What are the stages of learning?
Cognitive, associative, autonomous.
What is arousal?
A physical and mental state of alertness or readiness.
What is the Inverted-U theory?
Performance increases with arousal to a point, then decreases if arousal continues to rise.
Name two stress management techniques.
Deep breathing, mental rehearsal (visualisation).
What are the types of motivation?
Intrinsic (internal) and extrinsic (external rewards like trophies).
What are the factors affecting participation in sport?
Age, gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status, disability, family, education, time.
What is commercialisation in sport?
The influence of money and media on sport.
What are the golden triangle components?
Sport, media, sponsorship.
Give a positive effect of media on sport.
Increased exposure can boost popularity and funding.
Give a negative effect of sponsorship on sport.
Pressure to win or bad role models promoted.
What is sportsmanship?
Fair and respectful behaviour.
What is gamesmanship?
Bending the rules to gain an advantage.

Behaviour that goes against the rules (e.g. violence, doping).

What is health?
A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.
What is fitness?
The ability to meet the demands of the environment.

A mix of physical, mental and social factors that contribute to happiness and health.
