Parallel Circuit Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
How to identify a parallel circuit?
A
- 2 or more components connected across the same pair of nodes.
- Voltage across each component is the same.
2
Q
What is Kirchoff’s Current Law?
A
- The algebraic sum of all currents at a node = 0
- Incoming current = outgoing current
3
Q
What is the current divider rule formula?
A
Ix = It( Rt / Rx )
4
Q
How to find total resistance across parallel resistors?
A
- 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3…
- Total resistance is always smaller then the smallest component resistance
- More resistor connected in parallel, the lower the total resistance
5
Q
How to find total power dissipated in circuit?
A
- Pt = P1 + P2 + P3 …
6
Q
What is the effect of adding another branch is added?
A
- Total resistance will decrease
- Total supply current will increase.
7
Q
How is power dissipated in parallel circuits?
A
When resistors are in parallel connection, the branch with the lowest resistance dissipates the highest power.
