A

A young child eating dirt

18
Q

How do you diagnose visceral larva migrans?

A

You need a serology

19
Q

How do you treat visceral larva migrans?

A

albendazole

20
Q

Describe the life path of schistosomiasis

A

Reservoir in fresh water snails

  • -cerceriae penetrate skin
  • -Go to the portal vein
  • -adults lay eggs in the venous circulation
  • -Granulomas form in lung, liver, brain, bladder
21
Q

What are the most worrisome sequelae of schisto?

A
  1. Squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder

2. Portal hypertension

22
Q

How do you diagnose schisto?

A

ova and parasite screen

23
Q

How do you treat schisto?

A

Praziquantel

24
Q

What is the disease causing state of schisto?

A

The eggs! The adult worms don’t cause the fibrosis and granulomatous rxn

25
Q

What cell is responsible for the fibrosis in schistosomiasis?

A

Th2 cells
