Pectoral Region Flashcards
(26 cards)
Mammary
Gland
Apocrine gland
Cutaneous innervation of the Pectoral Region
Suprascapular N.
Ventral Rami of Intercostal nerves
Clavipectoral Fascia
Strong Fascial sheet deep to the clavicular head of the pec major, but superior to the pec minor
-Suspend floor of a Lila
Costocoracoid Ligament
Thick upper part of the fascia extending from first rib head costochondral junction to the Coracoid process
Muscles enclosed by the clavipectoral fascia
Subclavius
Pec minor
What ligament keeps dome of axillary fascia pulled up
Suspension ligament of the Axilla (apart of clavipectoral fascia)
Structure piercing the Clavipectoral Fascia (outwards and inwards)
Outwards:
- Lateral pectoral nerve
- Thoracoacromial artery
Inwards:
- Lymphatics from the breast to apical group of axillary nodes
- Cephalic vein
Mammary gland location
In pectoral superficial fascia
Deep relations of the Mammary Gland
- Retro mammary space of loose areolar tissue
- Pectoral fascia
- Serratus anterior
- Ex oblique
Location of Nipple
4th Intercostal Space
Arterial Supply of Mammary Gland
- Internal Thoracic A
- Axillary: Superior Thoracic, Lateral Thoracic, Acromio-thoracic, Subscapularis
-2-4 intercostal a.
Venous Drainage of Mammary Gland
Veins follow arteries, names are consistent
- Have anastomotic venous circle
- Superficial anastomosis v: Drain into internal thoracic and superficial veins of lower neck
- Deep: drain into internal thoracic, axillary, and posterior intercostal veins
Lymphatic Drainage of Mammary Gland
Axillary nodes (75%) Parasternal nodes
Nerve Supply of Mammary Gland
- 2nd to 6th intercostal n from anterior cutaneous branch and lateral cutaneous branch
- Supraclavicular N (upper and lateral parts)
Nerve Supply of Nipple
4th intercostal Nerve
Action of Pec Major
- Adduction and medial rotation of the Arm
- Flexion of the Arm (clavicular portion)
Innervation of Pec Major
- Lateral Pectoral Nerve: C5, C6, C7
- Medial Pectoral Nerve: C8, T1
Arterial Supply of Pec Major
Pectoral branch of the thoracoacromial trunk
Branches of Medial Cord of Brachial Plexus (Proximal to Distal)
- ) Medial Pectoral N.
- ) Medial Cutaneous N of Arm
- ) Medial Cutaneous N of Forearm
Pectoralis minor Nerve innervation and blood supply
- Inn: medial pectoral nerve, C8, T1
- Arterial supply: Pectoral branch of thoracoacromial trunk
Action of the Pectoralis Minor
- Depress point of Shoulder
- Elevates ribs of origin when scapular is fixed
Nerve supply of Subclavius
-C5/C6
Serratus Anterior Nerve Supply
-Long Thoracic Nerve
Serratus Anterior Arterial Supply
-Long thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7)
