Shoulder Region Flashcards
(26 cards)
Rotator Cuff Disorders caused by
- Impingement (likely the supraspinatus against the acromion)
- Tendinopathy
Glenohumeral Ligaments
- Superior
- Middle
- Inferior
Coraco-clavicular Ligaments
- Trapezoid
- Conoid
Axillary Nerve
- Terminal Branch of brachial plexus
- From posterior cord
- From ventral rami of C5 and C6
Axillary Nerve Course
- Passes posteriorly, through the quadrangular space, inferior to the shoulder joint
- It is vulnerable to damage here during shoulder dislocations
Branches of Axillary Nerve around shoulder
- Muscular branches to the deltoid and teres minor
- Articular branch to glenohumeral joint
- Upper lateral Cutaneous nerve of arm supplies the skin
Branches of the Axillary Artery
- ) Superior Thoracic A
- )
- Thoracoacromial Artery: Clavicular, Acromial, Pectoral, Deltoid
- Lateral Thoracic A - ) Subscapular A, Posterior circumflex humeral, anterior circumflex A.
Some Times Life Seems A Part bc u got CAPD
Arterial Anastomosis Around Shoulder
Between Branches of the Subclavian and Axillary A.
Subclavian: suprascapular, superficial cervical A.
Axillary: 3rd region (subscapular, anterior circumflex, posterior circumflex humeral)
Why is glenohumeral joint not stable
- Head of humerus 3x larger than glenoid cavity
- Capsule is redundant
- Few ligamentous support: labrum, coracohumeral lig
Main support of glenohumeral joint
-Rotator cuff
What is superior of shoulder joint
- Supraspinatus
- Subacromial bursa
- Coracoacromial ligament
- Deltoid muscle
What is inferior to shoulder joint
- Axillary N
- Posterior circumflex humeral a
- Long head of triceps
Subacromial bursa location
-Between deltoid, supraspinatus and capsule
Subdeltoid bursa
Between deltoid and shoulder joint cavity
Subcutaneous Acromial Bursa
-Located above the acromion
Subscapularis and Infraspinatus bursa
- Sub: between subscap tendon and capsule
- Infra: between infraspinatus and capsule
Nerve Supply of Shoulder Joint
Axillary N
Suprascapular Nerve
Blood Supply of Shoulder Joint
- Axillary A: Post and Ant circumflex humeral
- Suprascapular A
Nerve Supply of Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus
Suprascapular Nerve
Action of Supraspinatus
-Abduction of humerus 0-15
Action of Infraspinatus
-Lateral Rotation of Humerus
Nerve Supply and Action of Teres Minor
- Axillary
- Lateral rotation of humerus
Teres Major Nerve supply
Lower Subscapular N
Teres Major Actions
- Extension
- Adduction
- Medial rotation of humerus
(Same as Latissimus)
