Pediatric Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is croup
1)Pathophysiology
2)Common symptoms
3) treatment
1) viral infection of the sub glottic airway
2) seal like cough, stridor, sob, dob
3) steroids - dexamethasone + look at score (taussig croup score)
π¨π¨π¨What is meningitis π¨π¨π¨
1)Pathophysiology
2)Common symptoms
3) treatment
1) bacteria or virus infections of meninges
2) photophobia, neck stiffness, non blanching rash, brudzinkinsign
3) benzopencillin + ABC + Blue light π¨π
What are febrile convulsions
1)Pathophysiology
2)Common symptoms
3) treatment
1) hypothalamus isnβt fully till 6yrs old - unable to regulate temperature
rapid increase in temp in short space of time - due to numerous things - eg infection
2) tonic tonic state
3) ABCd - 15L , cool PT down
What are viral infections respiratory
1)Pathophysiology
2)Common symptoms
3) treatment β
1) generally viral infection of the upper/ lower respiratory tract
2) runny nose, dry cough, dob,
3) fluids, analgesia, temp control
π¨π¨π¨What is epiglottis π¨π¨π¨π¨
1)Pathophysiology
2)Common symptoms
3) treatment
1) bacteria injury causing inflammation of epiglottis
2) 4dβs- dysphagia ( canβt swallow
Dysphony - Horace voice
Dyspoena - DIB
DROOLING -
3) donβt look in mouth + blue light π¨
ABC PRIORITY
What are red flags in paediatric ( respitory)
Nasal flaring
Tracial tug / intercostal reccesion
Cyanosis / mottling
Absent breathing or rapid @ rest
TCRASHING
What is scarlet fever
What are main symptoms
Bacterial infection caused by strep A. can causes tonsillitis
sore Throat
Circumfeenual pallor ( mouth)
Aticubal fossil ( passtial.lines)
Rash ( sand paper)
Lympopathy
Eutheogenic toxins
Tongue - strawberry
Fever
What is hand foot disease
Ulcers within oral cavity or around mouth
- rashes on hand/ feet
- maybe asymptomatic or
When should you consider BVM in a child
Poor sats despite 15L 02
- poor chest compliance (1/3 rd of normal)
- Bradypnea/ bradycardia( cardiac arrest algorithm)
What are the signs of a child during different point of compromising
1) flush skin + tachy cardiac + tachypnea
2) pale skin + tachycardia+ponea + agitation
3) Cyanosis + Bradycardia/ ponea + drowsy
Skin is massive sign regarding stage of compensation as child will be tachy until they stop compromising
What is classified as SVT in children
Or a poorly decompensating child in regards to circulation
Svt = above 220BPM {children are natural tachycardic upto 12yrs old)
2) poor skin colour and temp, CBR, lack of pulses
SKIN IS THE BEST INDICATOR ON COMPENSATION STATE
What signs in children during the postictal stage maybe present but arenβt considered to be harmful
Brief irregular jerking
Nystagmus
Eye deviation
What is chicken pox
-Symptoms
- what is the progression of the rash
- when are PT contagious till
- treatment plan
1) A contagious viral infection (respitiry droplets)
2) immune cells bring virus to skin
- Flat red itchy spots
- spots become elevated
- Spots become fluid vesicles
- fluid vesicle crust over= scabs
- disappeared by day 5 unless
if they scratch at them they become scars
3) until the spots arenβt crusted over they are contagious
4) nsaids(not aspirin)/paracetamol + cool baths + cut nails
What Is albulunism
- why do parent or some siblings not have the condition but one child does
2) command symptoms
Albumin aids the production of melanins = suffers have little to no melanin = 2ressesive genes needed to develop condition = both parents carriers
2) eyes = cornea not full developed
- Affect their skin/eye colour
- nystagmus
- photophobia
- poor sight
- pale skin easily burned
