What is the protocol for root surface debridement (RSD)?

A

Identify sites from a detailed pocket chart
Check the sites still require RSD
Warn patient about the possible complications
Give appropriate local anaesthetic
Patient rinses with chlorhexidine for 30s
Recheck sites with ODU explorer to identify deposits and root anatomy
Instrument with ultrasonic (TFI-100)
Instrument with appropriate Gracey curette
Re-instrument with ultrasonic (TFI-100)
Recheck for deposits using ODU, if required re-instrument
