What is the protocol for root surface debridement (RSD)?
Identify sites from a detailed pocket chart
Check the sites still require RSD
Warn patient about the possible complications
Give appropriate local anaesthetic
Patient rinses with chlorhexidine for 30s
Recheck sites with ODU explorer to identify deposits and root anatomy
Instrument with ultrasonic (TFI-100)
Instrument with appropriate Gracey curette
Re-instrument with ultrasonic (TFI-100)
Recheck for deposits using ODU, if required re-instrument
What colour is the 1-2 gracey curette and what surfaces is it used for?
1-2 (grey)
All surfaces of anterior teeth
What colour is the 7-8 gracey curette and what surfaces is it used for?
7-8 is green
Buccal and lingual surfaces of posterior teeth
What colour is the 11-12 gracey curette and what surfaces is it used for?
11-12 is orange
Mesial surfaces of premolars (if not in kit use brown 15-16)
