Periodic table Flashcards
Organisation, who created it when why is it different from other periodic tables (6 cards)
What are the diatomic elements
The 7 diatomic elements are Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, FLuorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine
What is different about the diatomic elements
They do not like to be alone. They bond in pairs of two forming diatomic molecules. E.g. O2, H2
What is a chemical formula
A chemical formula is a collection of symbols and numbers representing the number of atoms in an element or compound.
What is a symbol
An abbreviation based on the element’s name. Example- H- Hydrogen, He for Helium
Who made the periodic table? What makes his table different to others
Dmitri Mendeleev, was a Russian scientist in 1869. His periodic table was the first to accompany uninvented elements.
What patterns are found in the periodic table
- Increasing atomic numbers in rows (periods)
- In a column (group), elements have similar properties.
