What is a personality Disorder?
When there is a pattern of rigid and unhelpful thinking styles that impact relating to others and situations. Causes issues at work, relationships, or social activities.
How would you diagnose a personality disorder?
18 years old of age; long term pattern of symptoms.
What are cluster A PD?
Odd and eccentric: paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal
What are cluster B PD?
Emotional, dramatic, erratic: borderline, narcissistic, histrionic, antisocial
What are cluster C PD?
Anxious and Fearful: OCPD, Avoidant, and Dependent
Paranoid Personality Disorder
Distrust and suspicion; assume worst intent
Schizotypal PD
ODD BEHAVIOR!! flat emotions or inappropriate; dressing is weird; anxious in social settings or have trouble relating; paranormal or superstitious belief; magical thinking; messages that are only meant for them.
Schizoid PD
NO ODD BEHAVIOR! lack interest in social and personal relationships; prefer to be alone; flat affect; inability to take pleasure in most activities; cold or indifferent
Antisocial PD
“The Joker”
Telling lies, aggressive, violent behavior, using charm to exploit others, problems with the law; violating others; conduct disorder may be a precursor
Narcissistic PD
need constant admiration from others; superiority compared to others; grandiosity; exaggeration; obsessed with success and status; need to be recognize
Borderline PD
impulsive; risky behavior; threats of injury or suicidal behavior; ongoing feelings of emptiness; intense fear of being alone of abandoned; intense anger or stress
Histrionic PD
seeking attention, dramatic or sexually provocative; putting on an act; very concerned with physical appearance; unrealistic ideas about their relationship with others.
Avoidant PD
avoiding some part of relationship; sensitive to criticism or rejection; avoid work activities; they are inferior and inadequate; hard on themselves; socially inhibited
Different from SAD because they justify the behavior
Dependent PD
needing to be taken care of; clingy; latching on; low self-esteem and lack of self confidence; difficulty disagreeing with others; fearful of being on their own
Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder
inflexible; black and white thinking; perfectionism; don’t like to delegate because they need order and control; tight control over money; inflexible about morality
