photosynthesis Flashcards
(14 cards)
what is the equatin for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water - glucse + oxygen
what is photosynthesis?
The process of building glucose from carbon dioxide and water using light
why do plants need chloroplasts?
They contain chlorohyll (which absorbs light energy needed for photosynthesis)
Plants and algae can only carry out photosynthesis in the presence of light
how does carbdon dioxide enter a plant?
Air through the leaves
what forms cellulose?
Thousands of glucose molecules being linked together
How does higher light intensity affect the rate of photosynthesis?
It increases the rate of photosynthesis
How do plants get their water?
From the ground through the roots
Why is cellulose important?
The cell wall is made of cellulose and the cell wall gives a plant cell its structure
what does a plant do when a lot of glucose is produced?
It converts the glucose into starch
what is a plant main source of light?
The sun
what 2 things are made of glucose?
starch and cellulose
what is evaporation of water from a leaf called?
transpiration
why do plants need glucose?
as a food source
for cellulose
state 3 ways that a leaf is adapted for gas exchange
large surface area
thin
stomata (gas exchange)
