Photosynthesis Pmt Flashcards
(14 cards)
Where light dependent and light independent stages occur
Light dependent: thylakoid
Light independent: stroma
Give 3 example of mineral taken up from the soil and state the molecules produced when each combines with the product of the light independent stage. (3)
. Synthesis of phospholipids with a phosphate
. Synthesis of a chlorophyll with magnesium
. Synthesis of amino acid using a nitrogen source
Explain how carbon dioxide is used in the production of glyercate 3 phosphate (2mark)
.RuBP and carbon dioxide linked together
. RuBP carboxylase
. Unstable 6 c substance splits into 2 3c
Describe how glyercate-3-phosphate is converted to triose phosphate (3)
. Glyercate 3 phosphate is reduced
. Using reduced NADP
. ATP is also required to supply energy from light dependent reactions
State why only some of the triose phosphate produced by the Calvin cycle can be used to produce hexose phosphate (1)
. Some triose phosphate needed to regenerate/make more RuBP
Suggest how many times Calvin cycle must occur to produce one molecule of glucose (1)
6 times
State precisely where chlorophyll a is found
In a photosytem and in the thylakoid membrane
Explain result in range of 500 and 600nm range
Green light is reflected by pigments
Explain an advantage of plants having f more than one pigment in their leaves (2)
. Light can be absorbed over more wavelength
. More light absorbed means more products from the light dependent stage
. Greater rate of photosynthesis
Use ur knowledge of photosynthesis to explain the role of these pigments in the production of ATP(3)
. Light absorbed by pigments in photosytems
. Excited electrons to higher energy level
. Electron emitted from reaction centre/ chlorophyll a
. Used to power proton pump / generate EC gradient
What is the function of chlorophyll a (1)
Absorbs light energy
Why do all leaves have a green colour (1)
All wavelength expect green are absorbed
What 2 process increases carbon dioxide level (2)
. Respiration
. Combustion
