Photosynthesis - Pt 2 Flashcards
U3L4 pt 2 - Light Independant Reactions (6 cards)
What is the Calvin Cycle?
The CC (or the Dark Reaction) is the second segment of photosynthesis that does not require sunlight.
What are the three stages of the Calvin Cycle?
1) Carbon Fixation
2) Reduction
3) Regeneration of CO2 acceptor
What happens in the Carbon Fixation Phase?
In Phase 1, 3CO2 is added to RuBP to make 3-phosphoglycerate via Rubisco
What happens in phase 2?
in phase 2, energy from ATP and NADPH concert the 3-phosphoglycerate to G3P.
One G3P leaves the cycle to form Glucose
what happens in phase 3?
5 of the 6 G3P molecules are used to regenerate 3 RuBP molecules.
Whats a good mnemonic for remembering the calvin cycle?
