(14 cards)
Taxonomic Ranks
Domain, kingdom, phyla, class, order, family, genus, species
DKPCOFGS
Eukarya Animalia-Cell Type, Cell structure, Number of cells, Mode or nutrition, Examples
Cell Type-Eukaryote
Cell structure-No cell wall or chloroplasts
Number of cells-Multicellular
Mode or nutrition-Heterotroph
Examples-Mammals,fishes
Porifera-Tissues and organ systems
No tissue or organ systems
Porifera-Body symmetry
Asymmetrical, no front back left or right sides
Porifera-Structures
Osculum-Large hole on top that allows water to leave
Spicule-Spike shaped made of chalk like calcium carbonate or silica. Spicules are made by archaeocytes
Porifera-Special cells
Choanocytes-Use flagella to move steady water current through sponge. Water enters pores in body wall
(help create water flow and capture food)
Porifera-Special Cells #2
Archaeocytes-Move around within walls of sponge
(ingest food caught by choanocyte and transport nutrients to other cells)
Porifera-Reproduction
Sexual Reproduction-Sperm releases into surrounding water, enter other sponge through pores
Porifera-Reproduction #2
Asexual Reproduction-Budding or producing gemmule.
In budding, part sponge breaks, settles to floor and grow into sponge
When harsh environment, gemmule is produced. (Groups of archaeocytes surround by spicules) With good condition gemmule can grow into new sponge.
Cnideria-Tissues
2 tissue layers
Ectoderm-Outside protective layer
Endoderm-Inside layer, helps digestion, has cells that produce digestive juice into digestive cavity
Cnideria-Special Cells
Nematocysts-Special stinging cells
Cnidocytes-Organelles that contain barb
Cnideria-Body symmetry
Most are radial, all sides identical
Cnideria-Cephalization
Lock cephalizatiom
-have nerves to respond to environment
-no eyes or other sensory organ
Cnideria-Body cavity
Contain open cavity
-Acts as both a moth and anus
