Physics Flashcards
(19 cards)
Define Physics.
Branch of science that deals with physical mechanics, motion, acoustics, optics, heat, electricity, magnetism, and energy.
Define Position.
Location.
Define Reference Point.
Location according to another object or place.
Define Motion.
Change in position over time.
Define Distance.
Amount of space between two objects
Define Displacement.
Measurment between starting and stopping point.
Define Speed
Distance an object travels over a unit of time.
Define Instantaneous Speed.
Rate at which an object is moving at an exact time.
What is the difference between Speed and Instantaneous Speed?
Speed refers to the rate at which an object travels. Unlike velocity, speed is a scalar quantity so direction does not matter. Instantaneous speed is the speed of an object in motion at a specific point in time.
What is the equation for Speed?
Distance/TIme.
Define Velocity.
Rate at which an object moves in specific direction.
What is the difference between Speed and Velocity?
There is a direction while explaining Velocity but not while explaining Speed.
What is Velocities equation?
Distance/Time. Same as Speed!
On which axis is the time (velocity) on?
X-axis
On which axis is the distance (velocity) on?
Y-axis.
Can velocity be negative?
Yes, velocity can be negative or positive.
Define Acceleration.
Rate at which velocity changes.
Can Acceleration be negative.
Yes, acceleration can be negative or positive.
What is acceleration’s equation?
A= [V(2) - V(1)]/ T
