cosy atmosphere, in a restaurant concert, others with him but he is transported to his past, feels alone in his memory, feels she sings/speaks directly to him
Softly, in the dusk, a woman is singing to me
poet visualises the years of his life lined up like buildings on either side of a street, remembering the childhood Sundays he describes is like being led down this street
vista of years
vibrant, life, strong memory, sound reverberates
boom of the tingling strings
pleasant, warm, tender, cosy, intimate,
mother who smiles as she sings
sinister - brings us to dark places, it is something he didn’t want to remember, painful, music can be uplifting or energising, but not in this instance (he was enjoying a nice night then upset), hes captivated/controlled by music
In spite of myself, the insidiuos mastery of song
deeply affected, allure of the music, takes him somewhere he doesn’t want to go
Betrays me back, till the heart of me weeps to belong
the living room
cosy parlour,

the tinkling piano
became a boy again, loss of self control, weeps for a time he cannot revisit, the Sundays spent with his mother,
distressed, feels it is unmanly show of grief, crying in public, feels weak, like a child
my manhood is cast
Down in the flood of remembrance, I weep like a child for the past
