What sections of the body are described as the sagital plane?

A

directly down the middle of the body seperating the left from the right side

To remember think of Sagital begins with and S and Split begins with an S

A

Front and back halves, imagine a channel in the middle of two planes of glass

What sections of the body are described as the transverse plane?

A

Head to tail i.e. spine

Note to remember T in transverse can be remembered as T for Top to tail

What movements and exercises are possible in the sagital plane?

A

Forward and backwards movements e.g flexion and extension

Exercise example: biceps curl, front lunge, walking, jumping jack’s etc

What movements and exercises are possible in the frontal plane?

A

can only move sideways
Exercise examples: straight arm lateral raises and lateral leg raises
Note, even though can only move sideways you can incorporate a bend as in the side lunge with bent knee

Spinal rotation with either shoulders or hips.

Exercise examples: Bench press, push ups, chest back flys
