Plate boundaries Flashcards
What are the types of plate boundaries?
Convergent, Divergent, and Transform
When does a convergent plate boundary happen?
When two plates move toward each other
When does a divergent plate boundary happen?
When two plates move away from each other
When does a transform plate boundary happen?
When two plates slide past each other
What land features does a convergent plate boundary form?
mountain ranges, trenches, volcanoes, and earthquakes
What land features does a divergent plate boundary form?
mid-ocean ridges, rift valleys, and earthquakes
What land features does a transform plate boundary form?
earthquakes
What is the difference between mid-ocean ridges and rift valleys?
Rift valleys are on land, mid-ocean ridges are in water
What is a collision convergent boundary?
When two continental plates collide and form mountains.
What is a convergent-subduction boundary?
When a continental and an oceanic plate collide and form trenches/ inland volcanoes. OR When two oceanic plates collide and form a trench.
