What do Cervical Orthosis do? What are some common cervical orthosis used?
What are the most common CTLSO’s?
- Sternal Occipital Mandibular Immobilizer (SOMI) and Minerva are most common
- These should be donned supine in emergency setting or O.R.
With Scoliosis Treatment, what happens if the curvature is less than 20°?
Requires observation
- Rapid curve progression may require intervention
With Scoliosis Treatment, what happens if the curvature is between 20-40°?
Requires use of orthosis or corrective case in younger patients
- Risser table
With Scoliosis Treatment, what happens if the curvature is > than 40°?
Requires sugical intervention
- Herrington rods
What is the Boston Scoliosis TLSO? How long in a day is this worn?
- Used to treat adolescent idiopathic curves > 20°
- Used for correction of scoliosis from T4 distal (Boston design)
-Milwaukee for T4 Proximal - Worn for 20-22 hours
What is the Milwaukee CTLSO?
- Successful in treating curves Proxial to T4. Also prescribed for Scheuermann’s Kyphosis
- This used to be the standard treatment before Boston TLSO
- This has a compliance issue
