What is the social control responsibilities of the police?

A

Main agency for the detection, investigation and prevention of crime. Results in huge volume of cases being brought to trial every year, many out of court disposals by the police using their powers to issue fixed penalty notices, cautions and reprimands. Have specialist department, units and sections dealing with serious and complex cases

What does specialist policing include?

A

Not only agency responsibility for investigating crime. EG HM revenue and customs deals with tax evasion, department of work and pension deals with benefit fraud and border force deals with immigration offences. There also specialist forces, such the British transport police and civil nuclear constabulary, protect nuclear installations

How are the police responding to concerns regarding domestic violence?

A

Survey evidence from 2017 annual of HM inspector of police shows two-thirds of domestic abuse practitioners (non-police professionals who work closely with victims) felt the police approach had improved in previous three years.

A

Women were to afraid to report certain crimes as they thought they would speak to a male. They can now ask to speak to a female

Police not using bail conditions to protect victims
Staff shortages are causing delays in responding to incidents, victims at risk
Body worn video cameras not always being used to gather evidence

Been falling. 2015 - 15% cases resulted in someone being charged with an offence. 2020 had fallen to 7%. Number of penalty notices and cautions issued by police has fallen
